What to know before going to Pioneer Woman Mercantile and Lodge

Don’t plan your trip to the Pioneer Woman Mercantile and Lodge until you read this guide!

For this Mother’s Day, my mom, two sisters and I took a road trip to Pawhuska, OK to tour the Pioneer Woman’s Mercantile, Lodge and other shops. We had such a great time, but we missed out on a lot because we didn’t do enough research and plan our trip out.

Closed on Sunday

Everything in Pawhuska, OK is pretty much closed on Sundays, so plan accordingly. The Mercantile and all the shops are closed, but there are lots of other things to do depending on the weather. You can shop in Tulsa, OK, there is a mall and movie theater. There are trails to hike, etc. But a better plan would be to come during the week or on a friday/saturday and make your travel day Sunday.

If you really want to tour the Lodge, then be sure to plan your trip for when the Lodge is open for tours. There are several dates throughout the month when it’s open, but they only have them posted for the next month or two, depending on their shooting schedule.

Where to stay in Pawhuska, OK

Of course, if possible, it would be awesome to be able to stay at Ree’s Drummonds hotel, but we didn’t book ahead of time. There was also a movie being shot there while we were there, so I think alot of places were booked up.

There are several really cute little cottages right down the street from the Mercantile called the Prairie Cottages. My sister really wanted to stay in both of them for our girls trip, but we veto’d her to get an incredible old restored house.

This boarding house is just across the street from the Mercantile and above the pizza and ice cream shop.

This hotel is snuggled up the Mercantile and all the shops.

Now this gorgeous house is just up the street from all that Pawhuska has to offer. When I first saw pictures of this house, there was no where else I wanted to stay. It has been updated and was just beautiful throughout. The owner stays onsite, but you will not see them unless you need them.

There are three bedrooms upstairs, with one of the bedrooms off limits to guests. There are three bathrooms upstairs as well and a dreamy dressing/sitting room.

• Where to eat in Pawhuska, OK

  If you ate every single meal at the Mercantile, you still wouldn’t run out of delicious new things to try. I cannot even tell you how amazing her food is! I can’t tolerate dairy, but I still tried her biscuits (divine) and the Parmesan Garlic Fries (heavenly). Every single dish we tried was outstanding. We ate there for dinner and for breakfast and I absolutely would’ve eaten there for every other meal if I’d had the chance.

  We didn’t plan well, so we missed out on several meals because the Merc is closed on Sunday. I definitely would’ve tried all her other restaurants though!

  Above the Mercantile is a warm welcoming coffee and pastry shop. There are couches and tables so you can sit and rest a spell. There are also windows into the bakery where you can watch whats going on. I saw them shaving a sinful amount of butter into smaller chunks for some kind of delicious delicacy.

  How to get a ticket for the Pioneer Woman Lodge Tour

  The morning you want to go on the tour, head to the Mercantile and ask at either cash register at the front or the hostess at the Deli for a ticket. It is a set of directions to get to the lodge. There is no set time for you to show up, and the ticket is good for your entire party. There is no limit on the amount of time you get to spend there either.

  

  The directions are definitely country directions(ours said “the sign was knocked over by a cow not long ago, so we aren’t sure it’s there”) LOL. It’s west of town and be prepared for a couple miles of dirt road. We went on a rainy day and my car was covered in mud!

  IMPORTANT-They do not allow any dogs or family pets at the lodge. They ask if you have a dog or other pet in your car with you, that you return at another time. No exceptions.

  The Lodge Experience

  Can I just be honest for a second?

  Prior to this trip, I had never seen an episode of The Pioneer Woman! I know, I know. I’m not sure how that happened, but it’s the truth.

  We planned this trip for a Mother’s Day Gift last year, but the pandemic shut that down. So I was going just as a fun girls road trip. I had no expectations. I love all types of road trips. My husband and I went on an estate sale road trip through Atlanta, Savannah and Charleston that was my absolute favorite. You can read all about that trip and the awesome goodies we found here.

  

  Well, the Lodge tour is one of the neatest things ever! It was absolutely worth it just to see the lodge. I’m sure if you’ve been watching Ree’s show forever, it will mean even more, but I had a blast just going through that beautiful home.

  As you walk in the door, the greeters welcome you and then say something I’ve never heard at another house….ever. “Go through all the drawers, open up all the cabinets. ” We were encouraged to really explore and check out every nook and cranny.

  That just really spoke to the character of the Drummonds to me. Normally when you tour someone else’s property you are expected to keep your hands to yourself and don’t open any doors. It was so wonderful to be allowed a glimpse into the kitchen of someone else.

  • The Pioneer Woman Mercantile-This is the store you see on the show. It’s a beautiful building and the coffee shop is upstairs.
  • The Pioneer Woman Collection -This store is around the corner from the Merc and it is Ree’s WalMart collection all in one spot. My WalMart never has her clothes line, and I got two dresses that are so comfortable and very affordable.

  I can tell you without a doubt that I would recommend a trip to Ree Drummond’s Pioneer Woman Mercantile and Pawhuska, OK. It was an experience worth having. The food alone is worth going for! You will not be disappointed in a road trip this welcoming town!
